Qiyam — Standing

Niyyahالنِّيَّة

Niyyah is the intention of the heart — standing upright, the worshipper consciously turns their heart toward Allah before the prayer begins. The words shown here are from Quran 6:79; the same words are part of the opening supplication the Prophet ﷺ is reported to have made, narrated by 'Ali (Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 771).

إِنِّي وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ

Inni wajjahtu wajhiya lilladhee fataras-samawati wal-arda hanifan wa ma ana minal-mushrikin.

I have turned my face towards the One Who has originated the heavens and the earth—being upright—and I am not one of the polytheists.

Hadith

Actions are judged only by intentions, and every person will have only what they intended.
