Qiyam — Standing

Niyyah

Optional

Niyyah is the intention of the heart — standing upright, the worshipper consciously turns their heart toward Allah before the prayer begins. This verse (Quran 6:79) captures that turning perfectly.

Inni wajjahtu wajhiya lilladhee fataras-samawati wal-arda hanifan wa ma ana minal-mushrikin.

I have turned my face sincerely to the One who created the heavens and the earth, and I am not of those who associate partners with Allah.

Hadith
